Website Redesign: Kleppe Photography

A new day, a new website launch. Excited to share the redesign of Kleppe Photography’s Squarespace website.

Kristin, a Woodstock based portrait photographer, loathed her website and decided to take on a Squarespace design by herself. Being familiar with how it works for using it for her studio, WhiteWall Woodstock, she thought the design process would be easy but quickly became overwhelmed. In her words…

I hated the way my website looked before hand and then I decided to take it on myself and then it was down for a year because I couldn’t find the time and I didn’t have the experience!

We launched her site within a month after receiving her all her beautiful galleries. Kristin is known in Metro Atlanta for her stunning newborn sessions, so I wanted that to be the main focus when you landed on the site.

I also spent so much time coding a customized marquee for her, then Squarespace rolls that out as a feature the week we launch (*sigh). Some other customizations to take it beyond a run of the mill SS site were:

  • mobile footer custom code - I find that too often people design this gorgeous footer for desktop but on mobile or iPad, it looks absolutely terrible.

  • a stylized dropdown for desktop beyond the standard SS way

  • color inversion of her logo automatically applied based on background image, so that a white logo isn’t against a light image.

  • the new marquee feature on SS is awesome, but some custom code was added to get it to be full bleed off the edge of the screen (crazy to me thats not a standard feature)

  • some padding and spacing issues

  • custom grid and parallax images on the home page

Now Kristin has a modern website she’s proud to show off. Most importantly, we helped her with an online booking integration and showed her how to setup all her mini sessions through the site. People can no book their slot and immediately provide payment to reserve it. No more communicating back and forth through email and text and DMs.
